There has been a deluge of media coverage on the results from the Iowa caucuses, mostly reporting the “landslide” for former President Donald Trump, winning over 50% of the vote. But to me, the most salient number from the night was how few of the registered voters in Iowa delivered Trump his “landslide.”
According to the Iowa Secretary of State, there are currently about 1.5 million registered voters in the state. The total vote for Trump was 56,260. That is 3.7% of registered voters. Trump supporters represented barely 2% of Iowa’s voting-age population.
